You might be surprised of all of the things Vaseline can do for you.Petroleum jelly is fat. It's a purified mixture of semi-solid hydrocarbons derived from petroleum -- yes, the same petroleum used for gasoline and diesel fuels and other products such as deodorant and bubble gum. It's a staple in our medicine chests as a topical ointment and it's also used for everything from shining shoes to silencing a squeaky hinge. Petroleum jelly is an oil-based emollient (it repels water), which makes it a long-lasting lubricant to smooth and protect rough and dry skin. How? Emollients help to replace lipids by filling in gaps in between skin cells. The result? Soft, well-hydrated skin. It works by creating a sealing barrier between cells, which locks in moisture and speeds up your skin’s natural recovery from dryness, helping it heal from within.

1. Plagued by dry, cracked feet? A pedicure may be the first thing you think of but all you really need is a jar of petroleum jelly, a pair of socks and a good night's sleep. Smooth a thin layer of ointment on the top and bottom of each foot before going to bed (the socks help keep the jelly on your feet, not your sheets) and wake up in the morning to find hard skin has been softened and cracks gone. By healing dry, cracked and calloused skin, feet become more resistant to blistering and hot spots.

2. Our skin naturally has a mixture of oils (epidermal lipids) and water to help keep it soft but too much hand washing, a skin disease such as eczema or just normal aging can strip this protection and cause dry, irritated skin -- especially on our hands. The oils in petroleum jelly help to seal in moisture and the thick ointment stays on the surface of the skin longer than water-based lotions, promoting longer healing. Worried about greasy residue? Rub a small amount of jelly onto hands and cuticles until it soaks in and save the slathering for overnight when you can cover your hands with cotton gloves.

3.  When the external layer of our skin becomes dry, chapped and itchy,

it loses its ability to act as a protective barrier. Skin becomes prone to cracks, sensitivity and even infection. Pure petroleum-based ointments are hypoallergenic, noncomedogenic, nonirritating, nonsensitizing and contain no added colors or fragrances -- all of which makes these moisturizers good for babies (on diaper rash), adults and everyone in between. Daily use on our bodies not only heals dry skin by sealing in moisture but protects skin from further damage by acting like a barrier against the elements.

To get the most bang from petroleum jelly, add it to a daily skin care routine, best used as a moisturizer applied to damp skin after a shower.

4. Petroleum jelly plays an important role in wound care, in minor and major injuries.As long as they're kept clean, minor cuts and scrapes generally heal just fine without treatment, but petroleum jelly or an antibacterial ointment can help speed things up and possibly prevent or minimize scarring.

5. If you don’t want to pay a lot for expensive lip balm, makeup remover, or even facial moisturizer, then your answer is a tube of petroleum jelly. It can soothe lips; take off foundation, eye shadow, mascara, and more. It will even act as a moisturizer on your face.

6. If you’ve run out of your favorite shade of eye shadow. What do you do now? It’s easy — make your own. Add a bit of food coloring to petroleum jelly and apply as usual. This is a quick way to make stopgap blush, lipstick, or eye shadow.

7. If you want natural beauty yes, you can get healthy and longer eyelashes. Lather Vaseline all over your eyelashes overnight and watch them thicken, even without a prescription.

8. Use petroleum jelly as mascara! Apply it with your fingers on your eyelashes and nobody will EVER know you are wearing anything because it goes on clear and still gives your lashes volume.

9. Hide Split Ends:Haven’t had a haircut since your budget only allows you go to Great Clips for a quickie? Hide damaged ends with a small amount on your ends.

10. Melt Vaseline and one chocolate chip in the microwave, mix and let re-solidify for chocolate lip gloss.

11. Mix with sea salts to make a scrub.

12. Warmed up can be used as a night cream.

13. It can prevent chilling of the face due to evaporation of skin moisture during cold weather.

14. Want a scent to last hours longer?

Then apply some Vaseline to the points where you spray your perfume, then spray your perfume on top of the Vaseline.

15. Are you a frequent flier? Even if you are not, always apply some Vaseline to parts of your body that are exposed to the air in the airplane, such as: hands, neck, face.

16. Mix some with aloe vera gel to create a quick healing lip balm.

Beauty does not have to be expensive my dears.I am sure to save tons of money on products that you usually buy because Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) has so many practical functions that can be substituted for other more expensive.
